4.2.7. Filesale

File sales module makes it possible to sell electronic files. With file sales you can for instance sell graphics/pictures, pdf-documents, software etc. To attach a file to a product, “file sales” must be chosen under creation or editing of the product. That also means that it is possible to sell both physical and online products in your web shop.

You will now get an administration page for file sales shown. First of all it is under “Present file” possible to upload the file you want to sell with the product. As administrator you always have the option to click on the file and download it. As a customer you do not have the option to do that because of security reasons and therefore you can always generate a temporary download link (“Generate a download link”). The link will remain active for 24 hours.

Under ”Settings” it is possible to limit the file in different ways both in regards number of downloads and time limit. It is also possible to sell files without limit. A limit which is saved will only be valid for new orders, so not orders which are already completed. 

Under Download histogram it is possible to see a full download histogram for all files. You can in that way monitor if the file has been downloaded together with a buy.

If you on a later time upload a new file the old one will appear under ”File histogram”. Here it will remain until you decide to delete it. An earlier order will relate to the old file from the histogram unless it is deleted after which the customer will receive the new file. It will in the file histogram outline appear if there is a customer who has not downloaded the file.

If you want to delete the product you should consider if the customer should be able to download the files that relate to the product. If you still want that the customer should be able to download the product you should just delete the product – all files will then stay active for download. If you do not want this you delete all the files and lastly delete the product. However, the most logic will be to change the status on the product, so that it will not be shown in the web shop but you can still see download histogram etc.

The customer gets access to the files from the order confirmation which will be sent by e-mail or can be found through “My orders” in the web shop. The customer will as starting point get access to the file when the order is “sent off” but this can be changed under “Shop settings”.

If you want customers who for instance pay with credit card should have access to the file instantly you can change that under “Payment methods”. Like that you can change what status the order will have after payment.
