3.1.1. Insert link

Here you can read about how you insert a link on your page. In principle, a link functions is a link the user can follow in the menu. When the user clicks on the link he will be lead to a new page (or perhaps a file).

Example – Insert link

In the following an example will used to explain how you insert a text link on a text page .You can follow the same method if you want to make a link on a picture. In that case you just mark a picture instead of a text.

1. Choose page
To insert a link first you choose the page where you want to insert the link. Click on “Page content” to get the chosen page’s content shown.

2. Mark text (or picture)
First you mark a word or a sentence that should function as a link. You can also mark a picture instead. Remember to choose a saying text for your link as the search engines read and use this text.
3. Create link
When you have marked the wanted word you click “Link” to make a link. The icon looks like this:

When you click on the icon another window will appear where you can choose what should happen when you click on the link. The window looks like this:

4. Type
Under the field ”Type” it should say ”Link”.

5. URL
Here you state the URL (address) to the Internet page you want to link to. We type in ”http://www.dr.dk” because we want the user to be lead over to Dr’s homepage when you click on the  link. You have to remember to type in ”http://” in front of the address – otherwise your link will not function correctly.

6. Internal link
If the Internet page you want to link to is a page in your own web solution you can choose the page here. However, we want as shown above that the user will be lead to DR’s homepage – therefore we leave this field empty.

7. Target
Under this point you can choose how the link should open. There are the following options:

- _blank
- _self
- _top
- _parent

If you want to link away from your web solution it is often a good idea to choose ”_blank” as the user this way does not navigate away from your web solution. Internal links is allowed to be in the same frame (_self) as the user then will stay in your web solution.
This setting is found under the "Target" tabpane.

8. Title
It is optional to type in a title but is often a very good idea to do. The reason for this is that ”Title” is the text that will be shown when the user holds the mouse across the link
Another reason for this are that the search engines can find the text you type in and potentially that can contribute to a better search optimizing for your web solution or the one you link to.
This setting is found under the "Advanced" tabpane.

9. Finish
You are now done – click on ”Update page” to save the changes.
